Desert Rhythm

The campus of Vidhyashram school reverberated today with the soulful presentation of rhythm and melodies. Under the project Desert Rhythm, jointly organized by Vidhyashram school and Bhartiya Vidya bhawan, a variety of cultural show was held in the morning. The soulful, full throated voices of folk singers filled the air of school amphitheater, whose songs reflected all aspects of Rajasthani life. Some of the popular forms of folk dances including Kacchi Godhi and Bhavai were also presented. They showcased stories of legendary battles, heroes and lovers expressing through their music and dance.
The show began with a tapping ‘Welcome Song’ sung in chorus by school children followed by Ganesh vandana sung by the guest artists, The gathering was addressed by Ms Priyadarshini Kachhwaha, Consultant , Socio-Cultural Activities, Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan. She encouraged the students to respect and conserve the heritage and folk art. Shri Rajendra Singh Payal, the well known artist and Secretary, Bhavans Infosys Cultural Outreach Programme, also addressed the students, highlighting the importance of the project and invoking awareness about the local culture, among young students.

The chairman of the school, Shri Vinay Kumar Jain, said that our folk dances and music are an inseparable part of our lives and existence. The Principal, Dr Bharti Swami also said that Rajasthani folk music and dances are unique in the world and we need to work hard to preserve it.
